The basis of our architectural concept is to create a distinctive building of high architectural quality that proclaims a commitment to environmental awareness. The facade renovation, realised with contemporary architectural means, does not aim at a purely cosmetic intervention on the existing facade for its own sake: besides being forward-looking and environmentally conscious, it creates architecture of real quality behind these defining parameters. Besides being environmentally conscious and forward-looking and expressing the owner's commitment, the green facade concept offers a renovation tool that can serve as guidance. The green facade of climbing plants, which appears as a second facade of the existing building, has a beneficial effect on the building's climate. The green terraces on each level create a unique microclimate even far above ground level. The solution combines environmental awareness with energy efficiency, and in terms of its urban appearance it can become a flagship of forward-looking green solutions in the area. On the upper floors, steel planters holding the greenery are placed along the edge of the cantilevered section that runs in front of the facade, and in them both climbing plants and plants that grow up to parapet height are planted. We selected the species of climbing plants so that they play a beneficial role in shading while not darkening the interiors. Thanks to the continuous cantilever, we open up the parapets of the existing facade openings and install windows without parapets, which improves the quality of the interior experience, since even when seated one looks out onto greenery everywhere from the office spaces. The continuous cantilever solves the fire-spread barrier between floors and, because it can be walked around, is also a significant help for maintenance. The interior design of the office spaces fits the architectural concept of the conversion. Our primary considerations in the design were sustainability, the mental and physical wellbeing of the people working in the office, and the creation of a work environment close to nature. Important to this are the diversity of the spaces, the division of the office space into functional zones, and the presence of living nature in the office space. The lush green plants appear in the office space and, through the parapet-free windows on the glazed facade, also outdoors, enclosing the office space. From the offices, one can step out through full-height openings onto the terrace running around the building. Important considerations were plenty of natural light, a strong connection to the outdoor space, and a bright, clean interior design. The open-plan office is divided into three zones: the workstation zone, the meeting zone and the breakout zone. The interior spaces of the office are formed by spaces of clear structure and legibility. The column-and-beam structure of the existing building is kept distinct and remains readable, while the new interior elements are consciously expressed with different materials and are handled as a unified whole.
