Paloznak is one of those Hungarian villages where the harmony of nature, community and the individual has survived. Tradition, and within it the traditional architectural values, preserves and secures the identity of its residents. Knowledge of tradition is the foundation of forward-looking development. Respect for tradition, however, must not be limited to archaising copies of old forms. In the building we have designed, tradition comes alive and speaks the language of our time. The architectural expression of the planned hotel is rooted in traditional architectural forms and the use of materials, and is realised with contemporary architectural means. Its mass, proportions and character shape the building in complex ways, make it part of the landscape and fit it into the established landscape character and the built environment. From the existing building we retain the nine-bay vaulted section, which ensures continuity and exploits the opportunity for an exciting interior spatial experience. Through the coexistence of tradition and novelty, timelessness and timeliness together can create contemporary quality architecture that is rooted in, and shows continuity with, local traditions and fits into its surroundings. The building can be operated economically. During the design we kept environmentally conscious and energy-saving design in mind. Through its design, the building is able to enter into an active relationship with its surroundings and its users. The site layout allows the building to be set into the terrain, which we achieve by shifting the southern longitudinal wing by half a level, making use of the slope of the plot. This arrangement blends the building into the landscape and helps maintain a proportionate scale. The split level favourably ensures the privacy of the rooms and the panorama from the rooms of the upper wing. In its use of materials the building is both traditional and modern, free of unnecessary ornament in harmony with the architecture, and it reflects the building's purpose and architectural standard. Thanks to its appearance, materials and architectural expression, the building has a local identity. With its individuality and architectural quality, it expresses its purpose as a five-star hotel. In selecting the facade materials, we put local traditions, quality, naturalness and durability first. The facade receives a natural stone cladding, which is the traditional building material of Paloznak, and the roof is thatched. The timber windows are white, and the external shutters of the rooms are timber painted white. The white windows and shutters allude to the characteristic white window frames of Paloznak.
