The existing building was extended and rebuilt several times from 1823 onwards, in 1908 and in 1923–26, and a veranda added in the 1980s left it with a somewhat chaotic form. Its condition had deteriorated considerably, and it was suitable neither technically nor functionally to meet the owners' needs. By demolishing most of the existing building, retaining part of it and extending it to meet present-day requirements, we created a new family house. We kept the ornate, Romantic main facade of the existing building and extended the part that remains in contemporary architecture that respects its proportions. The environmentally conscious new building has a compact massing, which is a beneficial passive architectural tool for achieving a low-energy building.
