Our architectural concept is to create a distinctive, high-quality contemporary building that can serve as a worthy gateway to the centre of Balatonfüred when approached from the west. The siting, massing and apartment layouts take account of the busy main road: the building is more closed towards the road and opens up to the quieter south-east, facing Lake Balaton, where the mass gently breaks apart. Terraces and loggias articulate the volume. Approaching from the north along the main road, the mass loosens towards the south. The building is set into the terrain and follows its change in level; because of the slope, the top floor bites into the lower part of the building. The plot is a trapezoid-shaped corner site. We aligned the building parallel to the main road, so that rather than turning away from it, it follows the road and can face those arriving from the south. The building's rootedness in place is expressed not only by its siting and orientation but also by its massing: stepping down towards Honvéd utca, with a clearly reduced and opened-up, subtly broken form, it creates a transition between the busy main road and the spa town. Even so, the building does not turn its back on the main road but presents a characterful face. Its facade is composed with contemporary architectural means yet recalls traditional materials: a red limestone plinth, white rendered surfaces and grey rendered insets. The architecture is unified; the terraces and loggias carved out of the building mass soften the volume and bring movement within its coherence. On the main-road side, the facade is eased and broken by the loggias above the entrance, which are recesses in the mass, and by the angled turns of the volume. The broken facade towards the main road, the broken contour of the garden facade and the pitched roof composed of gently folded planes are all ways of fitting into the surroundings and responding to the local context. The top floor opens up towards Honvéd utca, and the openings that turn around the generous corner recall the corner character of the plot and the gate-like quality of the building. Seen from Honvéd utca, the building faces the spa town with a villa-like scale and a contemporary villa character. The apartments turn away from the main road and face the quieter east and south. The building contains four comfortable, generously sized apartments. Each has its own large terrace, and the ground-floor apartment has a direct connection to the garden. In the interior design of the apartments, we strove for unity with the architecture. While maintaining that architectural unity, each of the four apartments received its own individual interior character, with the aim of creating homes that are pleasant to live in and feel truly like home.
